Six Ugandan teachers who were selected for the 2015 International Leaders Exchange Program (ILEP) have joined with fellow teachers from 12 other participating countries to start their training in the United States. The teachers, selected through a highly competitive process, will undergo training in various aspects to improve the quality of teaching.

The International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP) brings outstanding secondary teachers from Asia, Africa and South America to the United States to further develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge about the United States. The program also promotes cultural understanding and strengthens relations between the United States and participating countries.

The Fellows will complete a semester-long academic program at a U.S. University as well as field experience at a U.S. secondary school. Qualifying alumni will receive small grants to implement projects that share their U.S. experiences and contribute to the growth of their home education communities.

After the Commencement Luncheon organized by the U.S. Department of State and the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX), Ugandan fellows visited Uganda Embassy, where Mr. Stilson Muhwezi congratulated them upon being selected to participate in this prestigious program. He asked them to be good ambassadors for Uganda for the period they will spend in the United States, and also take advantage of every opportunity to learn and acquire skills that they will use to improve the education standards in Uganda.
