THE UN SECRETARY GENERAL ANTONIO GUTERRES IN UGANDA FOR THE UGANDA REFUGEE SOLIDARITY SUMMIT, 22-23 JUNE, 2017

The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is in Uganda for the Uganda Refugee Solidarity Summit, which he is co-hosting with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Mr. Guterres arrived in Uganda on 21st June 2017 and was received by Hon. Sam Kutesa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He later held a bilateral meeting with his host, President Museveni at State House, Entebbe. The two discussed the plans for the Summit and the targets that the Summit hopes to meet.

The UNSG hailed Uganda Refugee Policy as unique world over because he is familiar with it given his past experience as UN High Commissioner for Refugees. During his stay in Uganda, the UNSG will proceed on a field visit to the Refugee settlements prior to the Pledging Conference on Friday 23rd June 2017.

The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Ruhakana Rugunda, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon Sam Kutesa and senior Government Officials. The Secretary-General's Delegation includes Mr. Fillippo Grandi the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Ma Rosa Malango UN Resident Coordinator and senior UN officials.
