Uganda Embassy In Washington D.C Partners With Award Winning Ugandan Film Maker To Screen ‘Memories Of Love Returned’
On March 23rd, 2025, the Uganda Embassy in Washington D.C partnered with an award winning Ugandan film maker Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, who has starred in some of the most popular US television series like The Lincoln Lawyer, The Chi and Dead Ringers, to host a post screening reception for his documentary, ‘Memories of Love Returned’ which was named one of the ten best African documentaries of 2024 by OkayAfrica and named best documentary at the Silicon Valley Film Festival.

The film was screened at the AFI Silver Theater in Silver Spring, Maryland during the African Film Festival attracting over 250 viewers including film making professionals, Uganda diaspora, higher education students in film and creative arts, among others.
H.E Ambassador Kakonge, in her remarks, shared with the audience the importance of sharing Ugandan stories, culture and traditions in the Western audience to break stereotypes and prejudices about Uganda and Africa. She also commended the film maker on his passion, humility, use of personal resources, knowledge and skills attained in the U.S movie industry to invest and promote Uganda through producing the documentary and airing it in the U.S. She commended Mr. Ntare for serving as an example to Uganda diaspora to invest their knowledge and resources to develop Uganda in whichever way they can.

H.E the Ambassador participated in an interview with the African Film Festival organisers where she shared the importance and impact of Ugandan Diaspora professionals investing in Uganda not only through financial resources but also through knowledge and skills transfer. She also emphasized the Uganda Embassy’s full support in that regard.

The event concluded with an Embassy sponsored post screening reception where attendees enjoyed a variety of Uganda’s cuisines and learnt more about the culture and various tourism attractions Uganda has to offer.
