The Embassy held an official Reception marking Uganda's 57th Independence Anniversary on Friday 11th October 2019 at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel, Washington DC.

The event targeted the Diplomatic Corps and US Government officials, partner Organizations and senior members of Washingtonian society,friends of Uganda and leaders of Ugandan Community. The Guest of honor representing the US. Government was Amb. David Gilmore, Director of East Africa and the Sudans in the US Department of State. Also present at the reception was U.S. Special Envoy for the great lakes region Dr. Peter Pham who is instrumental in the collaboration of Uganda and the USA in the area of peace and security

In his statement, Amb. Katende informed the guests that Uganda values her partnership with the United States and the contribution by the Government and the people of the USA towards her economic growth and development through cooperation in the sectors of health, Trade, Education and Social Services, Peace and Security,Energy, Humanitarian Assistance, Democracy, Human Rights and good Governance.

He further underscored the cooperation of the two countries in the health sector, particularly the support Uganda has received in the fights against malaria, HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other communicable diseases, Maternal and Child Health, Nutrition and other programs aimed at strengthening the health sector. He announced that as a result of this cooperation, the Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe with support from the Atlanta-based CDC has established a Viral Hemorrhagic Fever laboratory that serves the region to help diagnose disease outbreaks like Ebola, that were previously referred to laboratories abroad.
