In recognition of their contribution to the socio-economic development of Uganda, deserving individuals were given Awards by UGANDA DIASPORA NETWORK. Our Head of Mission, Amb. Mull Katende who attended the event handed over Diaspora Awards to the following: Mr Solomon Sserwanja, Ugandan investigative reporter and news anchor and winner of the 2019 BBC Africa Komla Dumor Award Mr. Robert Katende, Author of "A Knight Without a Castle: A Story of Resilience and Hope".

The book narrates how Robert's story inspired the Disney Movie, Queen of Katwe and his work has now attracted the attention of the Obama Foundation, Bill and Gates Foundation and more global charities. Dr. Lawrence Muganga am Award-winning writer, author, researcher, educator based in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Dr. Muganga's new book "You Can't Make Fish Climb Trees" Halima Namakula - Diaspora Returnee and Philanthropist. Through Music and drama, Halima has worked with several organizations to use edutainment for effective communication to grassroots communities about HIV/AIDS, family planning, prevention of early pregnancies and spearheading a campaign to end Fistula in Ugandan Communities. Joram Muzira for his work in promoting Ugandan models on the international scene like Stacie Amito, Patricia Akello and Paul Mwesigwa. Solomon Jagwe animator and creator of the Nkoza and Nankyabapp and comic series that helps children and adults learn luganda everywhere in the world. This year's event featured a Keynote speech from an accomplished Ugandan - Lt. Col. Dr. Ivan Edwards born at Mengo Hospital and the highest ranking Ugandan in the US Armed Forces.
