Embassy hosts Uganda Community to Grand Celebration to mark 57th Independence

The Mission held a grand colorful celebration for the Ugandan Diaspora on Saturday 19th October 2019 at the Occasions Banquet Hall Conference and Events Center in Laurel, Maryland. The event that was overwhelmingly attended drew Ugandans from several states outside of the Washington, Maryland and Virginia area. 

Uganda Flag Raising Ceremony, Philadelphia

Amb. Mull Katende officiated at a Uganda Flag Raising ceremony at City Hall North Apron, in the City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on the morning of Friday 11th October 2019. The ceremony, organized by the Philadelphia Office of Immigrant has a historical objective of celebrating the City's rich culture and diversity. Uganda was chosen for the month of October.

Ambassador's Independence Message through Radio Uganda, Boston

On 8th October 2019, Amb. Mull Katende was hosted by Radio Uganda, Boston where he sent out a Radio message to the Uganda diaspora in the USA, Central, South America and the Caribbean, on Tuesday October 8th, 2019. Radio Uganda, Boston is a free internet radio founded by Ugandans which features a mix of music, information and cultural programming targeted at the Uganda Diaspora. Its Mission statement is "to enhance communication among Ugandans and friends of Uganda across the globe, especially those in the diaspora for the promotion of Community Outreach, cultural, economic, social and political development through networking powered by technology"

Pompeo on Thursday October 31st, 2019 presented Awards for Corporate Excellence (ACE) to Agilis-Partners, a US Company based in Kiryandongo, Uganda.The event took place in the Benjamin Franklin Room at the US Department of State. Uganda's Ambassador to the United States, Mull Katende attended the event.

ANNOUNCEMENT ON THE INTRODUCTION OF THE INTERNATIONAL EAST AFRICAN E-PASSPORT AND INTERRUPTION OF EMBASSY SERVICES TO ISSUE PASSPORTS

The Republic of Uganda is set to introduce an international East African e-Passport ot replace and eventually phase out the current East African and international Machine-Readable Passports and would like to inform you as follows:

1. The new e-Passport will be presented in the following colours: Sky Blue (Ordinary Passport), Green (Service Passport) and Red (Diplomatic Passport).

2.  The Commissioning of the International EAC e-Passport is scheduled for the end of January 2019, however the issuance will commence on 7th December, 2018. 

3.  The Phase out of Current Passports shall be as follows:
i.   government of Uganda has designated a two-year transitional period to allow for a gradual phase out of the current passport.
ii.   during the transitional period all citizen with valid Machine Readable Passports will continue to use them for international travel until January 2021.

4.   Ugandans in North and South America will, during this transitional period, submit their applications for the e-Passport manually through the Embassy until the Personalization Center (Uganda Embassy, Washington DC) is fully re-tooled to resume issuance of the new passports.  New Application Forms will be posted and availed on the websites of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (www.mia.go.ug), Directorate of Citizenship and immigration Control (www.immigration.go.ug) and all Uganda Missions websites.  Further, applications through the Embassy will require physical presence at the Embassy so that applicants' bio-data is captured before sending the applications to Kampala for issuance and return of the new e-passports.  Another notice will be put out to announce the readiness of the Embassy to capture bio-data of applicants.
