To all Ugandans:
You may have seen a notification circulating on social media regarding the January 2021 deadline for the expiry of Ugandan Machine Readable Passports.
This deadline was agreed upon by the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State summit, and binds all five EAC States.
Nevertheless, before the COVID-19 pandemic struck, stakeholder consultations were underway about the viability of the deadline. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted this process considerably.
A number of you have raised concerns at this notification and the difficulties involved in meeting this deadline during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The general public is therefore advised that a new deadline will be announced after appropriate stakeholder views have been harmonised.
You are still strongly advised to continue renewing your passports while following COVID-19 safety protocols, to avoid inconveniences of processing last-minute applications.
